Both my ENT doctor and my GP have strongly advised me to reduce my daily salt intake. It has been widely known and scientifically proven that reducing salt intake can help lower blood pressure and reduce tinnitus.
Initially, I simply replaced my “normal” salt with some reduced sodium pink salt. But, unfortunately, I did not notice any difference between those salts whatsoever.
I am determined to take it a step further and eliminate salt. I have been trying to avoid buying chips, snacks, and other salty food. To be very frank, it is almost impossible to do because salt is used in almost everything.
Fortunately, I came across this salt substitute, which is worth trying. In addition, I have also been trying to get used to the taste of my herbal salt substitute, which is fortunately very easy to make.
What you need:
- 2 tablespoons dried basil leaves.
- 2 tablespoons dried thyme leaves.
- 2 tablespoons ground coriander.
- 1 tablespoon onion powder.
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes.
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin.
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder.
- 2 teaspoons ground mustard.
- 2 teaspoons cayenne red pepper.
- 2 teaspoons paprika.
Appliances:
- A measuring spoon.
- Wooden mortar and pestle or herbal grinder.
- A mason jar with a lid.
What you need to do:
Please note that if you don’t have all of the ground herbs mentioned above, you can easily grind them using your wooden mortar and pestle or herbal grinder. In my case, I don’t have ground mustard so, I will have to grind it first.
- Grind the mustard using the wooden mortar and pestle and place it into the jar.
- Add the rest of the herbs according to their measurements.
- Put the lid of the jar back on, and shake it until the herbs are properly blended and the herbal salt substitute is ready to use.
I have noticed that using my herbal salt substitute and avoiding other salty food has reduced my tinnitus a little bit. Please note that using this herbal salt substitute requires getting used to it because it doesn’t look like salt at all and it simply tastes herby.
